How many Wands do I need per cycle?Updated 5 hours ago
One of the most common questions before buying Mira is how many Wands you'll go through each cycle — and how to pick the right package size so you're not caught short mid-cycle or overspending on tests you don't need.
The short answer: most people use 10–20 Wands per cycle, though this depends on your cycle length, the hormones you're tracking, and how closely you want to monitor your fertile window.
Typical usage by Wand type
Mira Plus Wands (LH + E3G)
Most people start testing around Day 6–8 of their cycle and test once a day until they detect rising estrogen, then increase to twice a day around the expected LH surge. Typical usage: 10–15 Wands per cycle.
Mira Max Wands (LH + E3G + PdG)
Max Wands also measure progesterone (PdG) after ovulation to confirm it happened. You'll typically test once or twice daily through the surge, then continue testing post-ovulation for PdG confirmation. Typical usage: 15–20 Wands per cycle.
Mira Ultra4 Wands (LH + E3G + PdG + FSH)
Ultra4 tracks four hormones across your full cycle. Testing is most frequent around the fertile window but spans a wider portion of the cycle. Typical usage: 15–20 Wands per cycle, and up to 25+ for longer cycles.
Mira Ovum Wands (LH only)
Ovum Wands focus on detecting your LH surge for ovulation prediction. Testing typically covers a 7–10 day window. Typical usage: 10–12 Wands per cycle.
What affects how many Wands you use?
- Cycle length: Longer cycles (35+ days) extend the window when ovulation could occur, so you'll test across more days. If you have a long cycle, consider a larger pack or a subscription to avoid running out.
- Irregular cycles: If your cycle length varies significantly, you may need to test over a broader window than average, increasing usage.
- Testing frequency: Testing twice daily during your fertile window gives a more precise picture of your hormone curve but uses more Wands than once-daily testing.
- Tracking goals: If you're simply detecting your LH peak, fewer Wands are needed. If you want a full picture including estrogen rise and post-ovulation progesterone, you'll use more.
Choosing the right pack size
Mira Wands are available in packs of 10, 15, 20, and larger bundles. A subscription is the most cost-effective way to restock automatically before you run low — you can set the frequency to match your cycle and pause or cancel anytime.
If you're new to Mira, starting with a 15-Wand pack is a good baseline for most cycle lengths. Once you've completed a cycle, you'll have a clearer picture of your personal testing pattern.
Can I use Wands from different cycle types interchangeably?
No — each Wand type is designed specifically for the hormones it measures and is only compatible with the matching Mira analyzer. Make sure you're ordering the correct Wand type for your device.
