What should I avoid doing while I measure my BBT?Updated a month ago
BBT is sensitive and can be disrupted by several things. While taking your BBT, please note that the following may give you an artificially high or low temperature:
- Eating, drinking, or doing any activity before taking your temperature
- Illness, especially fever
- Alcohol use the day before (going to bed drunk or tipsy)
- Electric blankets or heating pads
- Sleeping in a room that’s unusually hot or cold
- Travel, especially across time zones
- Day Light Savings
- Poor sleep
- Going to bed later than usual or waking up earlier than usual
- Taking your temperature at a later or earlier time than usual (over an hour)
- Certain medications
We also recommend keeping your mouth closed for at least two minutes before taking your temperature.
The most important piece of taking your BBT is consistency!
